What is Phishing?

Phishing means "fishing" for a model's or member's Username and Password so that the scammer can steal their information.

Model Phishing

Examples of Model Phishing

Fake MyFreeCams Website

Here is how this scam typically goes:

  1. You receive an e-mail or MFC-Mail that asks you to log in to your account and the e-mail provides a link to do so.
  2. They may claim that you need to confirm your payment information or provide some other excuse and you click their link to log in.
  3. You click the link and it opens a page that looks exactly like the normal MyFreeCams log in screen.
  4. You log in and everything looks normal. You close the browser and forget about it.

In this example, you just gave away your username and password to someone else.

The page that looked exactly like MyFreeCams was actually another website.

When you entered your username and password on that website, it was instantly sent to the scammer, who can now log in as you, change your payment info, abuse your account, etc.

Spoofed E-Mails

Some models have reported that they have received e-mails that look like they came from "myfreecams.com" or "myfreecamsmail.com" (our correct domain names) even though we did not send these e-mails.

This is possible because the "FROM" part of an e-mail is very easy to spoof or fake.

If you receive an e-mail that you find suspicious, please forward it to us at the e-mail address found on the Contact Model Support page.

Misspelled Links

The links contained in Phishing e-mails often point to a misspelling of the MyFreeCams.com domain (for example, "MyFreeCans.com").

Therefore, be very careful to note the exact spelling of any link you click on.

Better yet, do not click on any links in the e-mails at all and type in our address by hand each time.

Malware Downloads

The Phishing e-mail may also contain a link to a file to download. This will almost certainly contain a virus or keylogger that will steal your login info.

How Models Can Protect Themselves

  • When logging in to your Model Admin, type the address by hand or use a trusted bookmark. Do not click a link in an e-mail.
  • Be wary of unsolicited e-mails or communications. If something is suspicious, please Contact Model Support.
  • Look closely at the spelling of address when you log in. It should be exactly MyFreeCams.com. (a scamming website might be "MyFreeCans.com")
  • Keep private the official e-mail that you used to sign up to MyFreeCams. Share a different e-mail address with members if you need to.

In addition, you should frequently change your password to your MFC account and password for your e-mail address that was used to create your MFC account.

I've been Phished! What do I do?

If you believe your Username and Password was compromised, please do the following:

  • Log in through your Model Admin and change your password.
  • Just in case, change the password to your e-mail address that is registered to your account.
  • Please Contact Model Support and let us know. We will take additional steps to help you.

Member Phishing

Examples of Member Phishing

Free Tokens

You may receive an e-mail or MFC-Mail saying you have won free tokens, or can access additional content, by entering your Username and Password somewhere.

Or you find software that calls itself a MyFreeCams Token Adder, Token Hacker, or Token Generator which asks for your Username and Password.

Obviously, all of that is fake and simply designed to steal your login info.

How Members Can Protect Themselves

  • Never enter your Username and Password outside of the normal MyFreeCams.com website!
